ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Trent Wallace, David Perkins, and David Rauer have been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfers of the Week after their performance at the Boilermaker Invitational.
The trio tied for third out of 84 golfers in Illinois State's first appearance at the Boilermaker Invitational. The Redbirds placed first in the tournament after the final 18-holes were canceled due to weather. The squad played against a strong field of schools that included fifth-ranked Oklahoma.
In the first round, Perkins and Rauer led the team by shooting two-under par (70) while Wallace was right behind them one stroke under (71). Wallace shot five under in the second round (67), tying him with Rauer and Perkins after they shot four-under par (68).
These golfers are no strangers to receiving honors from MVC. This is Rauer's first honor from the MVC since being named MVC Newcomer of the Year last season. Perkins received the Golfer of the Week honor two times prior to this tournament. This is Wallace's fourth honor this season and tenth in his career, putting him first all-time among former and current Illinois State golfers.
This trio of honors marks the seventh of the spring season for the Redbirds and tenth of the year. Joel Durnford earned two of his own this year as well.
The team returns to action April 22-23 when they play in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.
