NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball team hosted their end of season dinner, on Wednesday May 1, as they presented Katrina Beck with the Jill Hutchison Leadership Award and highlighted the three graduating seniors.
The Jill Hutchison Leadership Award is given to a player each year who exemplifies all of the characteristics of a Redbird women's basketball player. The award is in honor of Hutchison, the former Redbird women's coach and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame member.
"Katrina epitomizes the characteristics of what it is to be a great leader, head coach Kristen Gillespie said. "Every person on this team has a friend in Katrina and that is something so special and unique. She has made such an impact on this program and I cannot wait to see what's in store for her next."
Beck, alongside Simone Goods and Viria Livingston will be walking across the stage next weekend to receive their baccalaureate degrees. This past season has been one of the most successful, since the 2012-13 year, and was spearheaded by the senior trio. The Illinois State women's basketball team finished the 2018-19 slate with the winningest record in six years, secured a spot in the MVC Tournament Semifinals for the first time in five years and had two players selected to the MVC First Team All-Conference list.
Additionally, Beck, Goods and Livingston have all etched their names in the ISU record books for different statistical categories. Beck finished her career fifth all-time with 113 career starts, starting in all 31 contests in the 18-19 season. Goods earned Newcomer of the Year in 2018, was a MVC Honorable Mention and First Team All-Conference player. In just two seasons, the Omaha, Nebraska, native marked a spot in ISU's top-10 list in career rebounds per game (6.9), blocks per game (0.9) and double-doubles (12). Livingston will go down as one of the best rebounders in Illinois State history, tallying the second-most career offensive rebounds with 276, grabbing 60 during her senior campaign.
