SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Illinois State seniors Trent Wallace and David Rauer each improved their standings at the NCAA Louisville Regional by double digits, each carding a one-over 72 for the day.
Wallace, who ended the first day tied for 53rd in the field, rose 12 spots to a tie for 41st overall. Rauer also rose through the ranks, improving from a tie of 67th after the first day, to his current standing of a tie of 57th, 10 spots higher than the day before.
Wallace started his day with 10 consecutive pars, before recording his first birdie on the par-four 11th hole. After two more pars he recorded his rounds' lone bogey on the par-four 14th hole. He closed strong with a pair of pars, a birdie on the par-five 17th hole before closing the round with a double bogey on the 18th hole, the first time during the round that he was over par.
Rauer struggled out of the gate during the round, opening the day with a double bogey on the par-four first hole, before responding quickly with birdies on the par-four second hole and the par-five fourth hole. He followed with seven more birdies before hitting a rough patch in the middle of the back nine with bogeys on the 12th and 14th holes. He came back strong with a birdie on the par-five 17th hole, before recording a par to close out his second round.
The pair return to the course for the third and final day at the 2019 NCAA Louisville Regional.
On the team side of the tournament, Auburn leads top ranked Oklahoma State by eight strokes headed into the final round, with Baylor, Iowa State, and Louisville rounding out the five schools that are in position to advance to the NCAA Championships. Individually, Arizona's Trevor Werbylo (-6) leads competitors that would qualify as an individual, on pace to earn the individual spot to the nationals from this regional.
