SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Illinois State seniors Trent Wallace and David Rauer have closed their Redbird golf careers at the NCAA Louisville Regional, as Wallace shot a 75 and Rauer a 79.
Wallace started his day strong by alternating between pars and birdies for the first four holes and stood two strokes under par nearly halfway through the front nine. He hit a rough patch in the middle of the round; however, with a bogey on the fifth hole, triple bogey on the sixth, and a bogey on the seventh to push him to three strokes over par. A bogey on the long par-four ninth hole sent him into the turn at four strokes above par.
He opened the back nine with three straight pars before knocking a birdie on the par-five 13th hole to drop back to three shots over par. He bogeyed the next hole to jump back to four shots over par and parred out the round over the final four holes to give him his final round score of 75, and tournament score of 222, which tied him for 48th overall.
Rauer opened his round with four consecutive pars before recording his first non-par with a bogey on the fifth hole and a double bogey on the sixth to go to three strokes over par. He answered with two straight pars before heading into the turn with a bogey on the ninth hole.
The back nine saw him par his first three holes; however, he bogeyed four of the final six holes down the stretch to finish his round with an eight-over 79, and a three-round total of 229, which put him in a tie for 65th in the field.
Top ranked Oklahoma State took home the team title in the event, while Auburn, Baylor, Louisville, and North Florida all advanced to the NCAA Championships. Individual champion Tripp Kinney will advance as an individual from the regional as well.
