NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State will take on Southern Illinois this afternoon in game four of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament at 3 p.m. at Duffy Bass Field. On the mound for the Redbirds with be MVC Pitcher of the Year Brent Headrick against Salukis' hurler Mason Hiser.
Illinois State Redbirds (32-22, 14-7 MVC)
The No. 2 seed Illinois State Redbirds had a bye from day one of the MVC tournament. Illinois State led the MVC in batting average (.310), at-bats (756), hits (234), and doubles (50). In conference play, Headrick went 7-0 defeating every team with a 1.31 ERA. The Custer Park, Illinois, native tossed 48 innings allowing just 13 walks while striking out 60.
Southern Illinois Salukis (25-27, 5-16 MVC)
The No. 8 seed Southern Illinois will play its second game in as many days in the tournament. The Salukis upset No. 5 Bradley, 7-4 yesterday. In conference play, Hiser started six games going 1-3 with a 5.34 ERA as he walked 10 and struck out 22 over 32 innings pitched.
Series History
Illinois State leads the all-time series against Southern Illinois, 91-88-1 after sweeping the Salukis in a three-game series this season in Carbondale. The Redbirds outscored the Salukis, 21-14 in the series.
