ST. LOUIS – For the second consecutive year, Illinois State junior David Perkins has been named to the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team, announced by the conference office on Friday.
Perkins is second on both the Redbirds' team and in the MVC with a 72.0 stroke per round average. He finished the season with five top-10 finishes, three of those coming in the top-five. Of his 33 rounds during the season, 20 of those were at or below par.
The East Peoria, Illinois, native, had two third-place finishes during the season including at the season opener at the Badger Invitational and in the regular-season finale at the Boilermaker Invitational. His season-best round came at the Badger Invitational where his 65 tied the tournament single-round record.

The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic All-America program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of her team's rounds or played at the MVC Championship.
