NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's basketball program received a National Letter of Intent from Normal Community standout Maya Wong.
Wong is an early graduate and has decided to join Illinois State this year and take a redshirt season for 2019-20. Wong comes to ISU after a stellar high school career, claiming Honorable Mention All-State honors and guiding the Lady Iron to a regional championship. The 5-8 point guard averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.2 steals over the course of her three-year career.
"We are thrilled that Maya has decided to graduate early and join our talented 2019 class," Head Coach Kristen Gillespie said. "Maya is an elite competitor in everything she does and plays extremely hard. She is a skilled point guard with great court vision and a high basketball IQ. Maya's redshirt season next year will pay off dividends during her career as a Redbird!"
Wong becomes the sixth member of the 2019-20 recruiting class, alongside Cameron Call, Hannah Kelle, McKenna Sims, Juliunn Redmond and Terrion Moore.
