Owen Miller Named a Texas League All-Star

In the span of one week, former Illinois State baseball standout Owen Miller, was named a 2019 Texas League All-Star and tabbed the Texas League's Player of the Week, as a member of the Amarillo Sod Poodles (San Diego Padres Double-A affiliate).

This is Miller's first weekly honor and second time being voted an All-Star, having received his first bid last season when he played for the Class-A Northwest League Tri-City Dust Devils.

The Fredonia, Wisconsin, native was drafted in the third round by San Diego in 2018 after a stellar career as a Redbird. On the one-year anniversary of his signing week, Miller turned in impressive numbers over a six-game stretch to be named the Texas League Player of the Week for June 10-16. He went 13-for-23 (.565) at the dish with a double, home run, four RBI and four runs scored, while only striking out once.

Miller currently leads the Texas League in hits (85), which also ranks second in all of Double-A baseball. He is also second in the league in batting average (.320), sixth in on-base percentage (.377), and tied for eight in doubles (14).

Miller is one of seven Sod Poodles to represent the South Division in the 83rd annual Harsco Texas League All-Star Game taking place on Tuesday, June 25 at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
