Laufenberg to compete at USATF Outdoor Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa – Illinois State track & field thrower Sydney Laufenberg will compete with the nation's best this weekend as she represents the Redbirds at the 2019 USATF Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

Laufenberg, who will be a redshirt-junior in indoor eligibility and a senior in outdoor eligibility this upcoming season, is slated to compete in the discus final on Sunday, July 28 at 3 p.m. CT.

Coming off a successful outdoor campaign where she garnered Second Team All-America honors in the discus and set the ISU discus record (187-0 ft.), Laufenberg looks to continue building on that momentum against the nation's top competitors.

The Clinton, Iowa native's top mark of 187-0 ft. is the 20th best in the nation this year and the 13th best among NCAA student-athletes.

Laufenberg is one of 18 women competing in the discus at the USATF Outdoor Championships and the only woman from the Missouri Valley Conference competing in the event.

Fans can watch Laufenberg compete with a NBC Sports Gold subscription.
