CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Five student-athletes from the Illinois State women's golf team have been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars list for the 2018-19 season.
Becca Black, Morgan Savage, Paige Seiser, Caitlin Sims, and Emma Sutton were all honored by the governing body with this award.
"Being named to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team is an outstanding accomplishment," said head coach Breanne Hall. "These ladies are dedicated student-athletes that work extremely hard in the classroom as well as on the golf course. Overall, they are wonderful representatives of Illinois State University."
In all, 1,097 women's collegiate golfers were recognized with this prestigious honor. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics - the minimum grade point average (GPA) is 3.5.
The five honorees are each within the top six of the team's scoring average during the season, including Sims, who led ISU with a 76.9 stroke per 18-hole average. Black averaged 77.8 strokes per round, as Seiser (78.9), Savage (79.0), and Sutton 81.9) all played in at least 19 of the team's 28 rounds during the season. Â
Sims was also named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete team for the second consecutive season.
This season marks the fifth consecutive season where the Redbirds put at least five student-athletes on the WGCA All-American Scholars list.
