CHARLESTON, S.C. – Illinois State offensive standouts Brady Davis and James Robinson were listed among 40 FCS players on the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) 2019 preseason watch list for the CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy. Illinois State is the only FCS program with two players on the watchlist.
Davis heads into his second season behind center for the Redbirds. The Columbus, Mississippi, native was named to the 2018 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team and finished second in the voting for MVFC Newcomer of the Year Award. A three-time MVFC Newcomer of the Week selection, Davis completed 142-of-254 pass attempts for 1,935 yards with 19 touchdowns and just five interceptions for ISU. He threw for 317 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in a win over Eastern Illinois, including a 97-yard touchdown pass, and later completed 66.7 percent of his passes and tied career-best with four touchdown passes in a win over Southern Illinois.
Robinson, who has garnered 2019 preseason All-America honors from multiple outlets, was also recently named to the 2019 STATS FCS Walter Payton Award preseason watch list. The Rockford, Illinois, product was named a 2018 STATS FCS and HERO Sports FCS All-America Second-Team selection and earned third-team All-America honors from The Associated Press. Earning All-Missouri Valley Football Conference First-Team honors for the second-straight year, Robinson led the MVFC with 1,290 rushing yards and tied for second in the league with 12 rushing touchdowns during the regular season.Â
The 2019 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. All FCS players are eligible for the award, and the winner will be announced January 15, 2020.
