Redbirds and Roos Meet in Sunday Matinee

The Illinois State soccer team continues its weekend road trip, traveling from Omaha to Kansas City to take on the Kansas City Roos on Sunday. Kick off at Durwood Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m.

Live stats will be available for Sunday's match with a free stream provided by the WAC Digital Network. Fans can also follow along on Twitter (@Redbird_Soccer) for in-game updates.

Kansas City – What You Need to Know
The Roos began their 2019 season with a win as well, defeating Indiana State 1-0 at home on Friday evening. The game-winning goal was scored by sophomore Rylan Childers on a penalty kick in the 48th minute. Senior goalkeeper Erin Roth had five saves in the shutout.

Kansas City was picked to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in 2019, after capturing the regular season title last season and falling in the WAC Tournament final. Childers was named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and seniors Halle Hamilton and Abby Small were both named to the Preseason All-WAC Team.

Head coach Chris Cissell enters his ninth season with the Kansas City program with a record of 89-59-18.

Illinois State vs. Kansas City
Friday's meeting will be only the second all-time between the Redbirds and the Roos. Illinois State defeated Kansas City 1-0 at Adelaide Street Field on Sept. 29, 2017, behind a goal from Hannah Rodgers.

Last Time Out
The Redbirds opened the season with a victory Friday night, defeating Omaha 3-2 at Caniglia Field. Senior Kate Del Fava tallied two goals, with fellow senior Mikayla Unger adding one of her own. Unger, Tate Barney, and Ashley Santos were all credited with assists. Senior goalkeeper Haley Smith got the win in goal for the 'Birds, making six saves on 13 shots faced.
