The Illinois State soccer team will host two promotional events in conjunction with their upcoming home-opening weekend of Sept. 6-8. Local Heroes Night will be held on Friday, Sept. 6 during Redbird soccer's match with Northern Illinois with Pack the Pitch being set for Sunday, Sept. 8's game with Illinois.
Local Heroes Night – 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6
All local heroes and veterans in the community will be recognized at Local Heroes Night.
The team will also be honoring Army Ranger Sgt. Josh Rodgers, who passed away in April 2017 in the Nangarhar Province. Joshua's sister, former Illinois State soccer player Hannah Rodgers, and her family will be in attendance and present the game ball before the match.
Back by popular demand, the Local Heroes Night concession special will consist of $2 Icees.
Pack the Pitch – 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8
Help the Redbird soccer team break the all-time attendance record and "pack the pitch" for Sunday's match versus in-state rival Illinois. The current attendance record of 1,085 fans at Adelaide Street Field was set in August 2012 during a double overtime 1-1 draw also against the Illini.
The first 100 students in attendance will receive a free t-shirt, courtesy of ISU Athletics' Shirtember promotion. Students must have a student ID with them to claim their t-shirt.
The Sunday Funday Pregame Tailgate will begin at 4 p.m. and is open to all fans to join in on the festivities. There will be music, food while supplies last, and many more activities.
ISU's most popular concession item, $7 walking tacos, will be the special for Sunday's game.
The Illinois State Big Red Marching Machine Drumline will be in attendance and performing throughout the match.
