NORMAL, Ill. – The 108th meeting of the Mid-America Classic awaits the No. 12/13 ranked Illinois State football team this week, as the Redbirds head to Charleston to take on the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Saturday. ISU head coach Brock Spack will preview the matchup against EIU Thursday at The Brock Spack Show, presented by Bud Light, live from Schooners in Bloomington beginning at 6 p.m.
The Redbirds picked up a home-opener win over Morehead State last Saturday to improve to 1-1 on the season, and will be facing a Panthers team that is 0-2 after suffering a defeat at the hands of Indiana last weekend. ISU holds a 56-42-9 advantage in the series history, with ISU having won four out of the last five meetings overall, including the last two over EIU. The Redbirds have won by an average margin of 34.5 in those previous two wins and have posted victories in their last two meetings at O'Brien Field in Charleston.
Coach Spack will talk with co-hosts Dick Luedke and Ted Schmitz and welcome senior linebacker Tuvone Clark to the show as this week's player guest. The St. Louis native has been a three-year starter on defense for the Redbirds and came up with one of the biggest plays of his career in the win over Morehead State, as he stepped in front of a pass and returned the interception 29 yards for a touchdown.
