Himmelman Named MVFC Offensive Lineman of the Week

ST. LOUIS – Illinois State offensive lineman Drew Himmelman is the Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Himmelman and the Redbird front dominated for the second week in a row, as ISU rushed for over 250 yards and scored three times in a win over Eastern Illinois in the 108th Mid-America Classic on Saturday. The left tackle from Geneseo, Illinois, graded out at 90 percent for ISU and was vital in the success of James Robinson, who rushed for 146 yards and three scores on the ground as the Redbirds improved to 2-1 on the season. 

The Redbird rushing attack has averaged 300 yards and three touchdowns on the ground the past two weeks in a pair of victories. ISU currently ranks No. 25 in the country with 219.3 rushing yards per game and Robinson ranks in the top five in rushing yards (340), yards per game (113.3) and rushing touchdowns (6) in the FCS through three contests.

No. 10 ranked Illinois State returns to action Saturday at 6:30 p.m., when it hosts Northern Arizona at Hancock Stadium. The annual CommUniversity event will take place prior to the game, as will a Redbird cheer clinic, and BOPI will sponsor halftime fireworks.
