Kelly Featured in MVC’s Enterprise Bank & Trust Scholar-Athlete Spotlight

ST. LOUIS – Illinois State track & field's Devon Kelly was selected as the male representative for this week's MVC Enterprise Bank & Trust scholar-athlete spotlight for his commitment to his community and both academic and athletic excellence as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Kelly, who will complete his Redbird track & field career this year, has maintained a 3.46 GPA as a double-major in Legal Studies and Political Science on the Pre-Law track with a minor in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

A native of St. Charles, Illinois, Kelly is extremely involved on the Illinois State campus and the Bloomington-Normal community.

In addition to the Redbird track & field team, Kelly is involved in Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, Pi Sigma Alpha Honors Fraternity for Political Science, Lambda Epsilon Chi, Honors Society for Paralegals and College Democrats.

Kelly has held leadership positions in both Alpha Tau Omega and College Democrats. He is a founding father of ATO at Illinois State and serves as the recruitment and philanthropy chair of the organization. For College Democrats, he held the position of secretary and previously served as Vice President for the Tri Towers Area Government when he was an underclassman.

With majors in Legal Studies and Political Science, Kelly has spent a lot of his time volunteering with local candidate campaigns. His other community service involvement includes: Home Sweet Home Ministries and the local Bloomington-Normal food pantry.

To qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.

Kelly and the 'Birds will host Indiana State for the annual Coughlan-Malloy Cup on Friday, Jan. 17 inside Horton Field House. Field events begin at 3 p.m.
