David Perkins Named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List

FORT WORTH, Texas – Illinois State men's golf senior David Perkins has been named as one of 31 collegiate golfers to the 2020 Ben Hogan Award Watch List.

The Ben Hogan Award is an annual award first issued in 1990 that honors men in NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA, or NJCAA. The award is presented by Konica Minolta Solutions U.S.A. Inc. and looks at a college golfer's performance during a 12-month period (June to May).

Perkins has had a career year. He has been named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Year four times in the 2019-20 season and earned a medalist honor at the 2019 Golfweek Conference Challenge. Outside of the MVC, Perkins is individually ranked 17th in the nation according to GolfStat with a scoring average of 69.77.

The Ben Hogan Award watch list is determined by selection committee members made up of collegiate, amateur, and professional golf leaders. Perkins is the first Illinois State golfer to be put on the watch list. No golfers in the MVC have been named to the semifinalists list.

The ten semifinalists of the 2020 Ben Hogan Award will be named Wednesday, April 15. The top three finalists will be named in May and will be invited to a black-tie dinner at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
