NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State fifth-year senior forward Lexi Wallen has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
She is one of 42 NCAA Division I student-athletes named to the prestigious list, as well as one of four Missouri Valley Conference players. The Champaign, Illinois native now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot to be announced between March 9-12.
Wallen is ranked second in scoring in the Valley, averaging 17.6 points and 6.5 boards per contest. The forward is also ranked second in the MVC in field goal percentage, shooting 57.3 percent (153-of-267) from the floor. The senior is coming off a career performance last weekend, in which she put up a career-best 35 points and seven rebounds in Friday's double overtime win over Loyola Chicago at Redbird Arena.
Wallen joined the women's basketball team in December 2018, after exhausting her eligibility as a four-year ISU volleyball student-athlete. She has completed a degree in Biology at Illinois State, and is currently taking classes in Community Health & Promotion.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore in athletic and academic standing at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
