Redbirds Fall to No. 19 BYU on Senior Night

NORMAL, Ill. – An excited crowd ventured out to Horton Field House Friday night to honor five Illinois State gymnastics seniors, who competed in their final regular-season home meet against No. 19 BYU. The nationally-ranked Cougars came out on top in the meet by a score of 196-850-193.275.

Scoring Breakdown:

  • Vault: BYU 49.225, ISU 46.750
  • Bars: BYU 49.125, ISU 48.825
  • Beam: BYU 49.200, ISU 48.600
  • Floor: BYU 49.300, ISU 49.100

Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"Starting off we performed our worst vault of the season. We gathered ourselves back up and came out strong on bars. We had our best beam and floor performances of the season. We still have not put four events together, but it's all there for us and we just need to do it. Overall though, it was a great meet against a very good team in BYU."

  • During the second rotation, the Redbirds competed strong on bars scoring a 48.825 as a team with five gymnasts scoring over 9.700 and narrowed the gap.
  • ISU had three gymnasts score over 9.700 during the third rotation and scored a season-best 48.600 on beam.
