NORMAL, Ill. – For the third time this season, Illinois State freshman Angelica Labat has been honored by the Midwest Independent Conference, this time as the league's Gymnast of the Week after her strong performance against conference foe Southeast Missouri.
Labat previously earned Performance of the Week honors after posting a 9.925 on beam during a tri-meet against Michigan State and Central Michigan and last week was honored as Newcomer of the Week for her performance against Northern Illinois.
Last Friday, Labat won the all-around for the third time this season, scoring a career-high 38.950. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native tied for the event win on bars with a career-high 9.875 and tied for the beam win, scoring a 9.700. Those efforts helped the Redbirds post a team score of 192.475 in a narrow loss to SEMO.
Labat and the Redbirds hit the road again on Saturday, Feb. 8, for a tri-meet in Colorado against the Air Force Academy and Seattle Pacific at 2 p.m.Â
