NORMAL, Ill. – For the seventh time this season, Illinois State freshman Angelica Labat has been recognized by the Midwest Independent Conference this time as the league's Newcomer of the Week for her strong performance against Northern Illinois last Friday in DeKalb.
The Newcomer of the Week honor is the third for Labat, who has also twice earned Gymnast of the Week and Performance of the Week awards. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native tallied a total of 38.600 in the all-around to win the event title in ISU's dual meet against the Huskies last week. That score was aided by a second-place finish on bars with a 9.825 and a 9.775 mark on beam to tie for third place overall.
The Redbirds wrap up the regular season on the road against MIC foe Lindenwood on Friday, March 13, at 6 p.m. inside the Robert F. Hyland Arena. That will be the final tune up for the Redbirds before Illinois State hosts the 2020 MIC Championship at Redbird Arena on Friday, March 20, beginning at 6 p.m.
