ST. LOUIS – Illinois State track & field middle distance runner Harris Porter was featured in this week's Missouri Valley Conference State Farm Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, as announced by the league office.
Porter is currently in his third year of the Accounting BS/MPA Program where he has maintained a 3.87 grade point average. The Bloomington, Illinois native, who also minors in Computer Science has been named to the Dean's List, the AFNI Honor Roll and the MVC Honor Roll throughout his academic career at Illinois State.
In addition to being a Division I student-athlete, Porter is involved in Beta Gamma Sigma, international business honor society for AACSB accredited schools, which are the top five percent of business school programs. During the 2019-2020 academic year, Porter served as Beta Gamma Sigma's Executive Board as Secretary. He has also been a member of the Student Accounting Society at ISU since the fall of 2018.
As a middle distance runner for the 'Birds, Porter has competed in the 800-meter run at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships twice during his career where the men's team won the Valley title in 2019 and tied for second in 2020.
To qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
