LAST TIME OUT
Led by a 12-point, five-rebound performance by fifth year Juliunn Redmond, Illinois State dropped its season opener in a 77-60 loss at Northern Illinois on Tuesday evening (full recap).
Joining Redmond in double figures was graduate student Jada Stinson, who added 10 points in her Redbird debut. Redshirt junior Mary Crompton and redshirt sophomore Maya Wong each contributed nine points on the night.
In addition to Stinson, freshmen Lexi Boles, Kenzie Bowers, Lauren Cohen and Chloe Van Zeeland all saw their first action in an Illinois State uniform.
THE STREAKS CONTINUE
Following Tuesday's season opener at NIU, both Juliunn Redmond and Mary Crompton have built upon scoring streaks from last year.
Redmond has now scored in double digits in six-straight games (and in 35 of 54 games in her career).
Crompton has made at least three three-pointers in four-straight games (and in 25 of 59 games in her career).
SCOUTING THE TOMMIES
St. Thomas officially began its Division I era on Wednesday evening, as the Tommies fell at Wisconsin, 67-51, to open the 2021-22 campaign. The Tommies made the jump from DIII after the 2020-21 season, in which they had won 929 of 1,201 games they played in their previous 44 years at that level.
UST's experienced veterans led the team in their season opener at Wisconsin, as graduate student Erin Norling had a team-high 15 points, corralling six rebounds. Fellow graduate student Kaia Porter finished with 13 points, connecting on 3-of-4 shots from long range. Porter also led the Tommies in rebounding with seven boards on the night.
Head coach Ruth Sinn is in her 17th year as the head of the Tommies program, amassing an impressive 356-89 record in that span.
