Redbirds Sweep MVC Weekly Honors

ST. LOUIS – Illinois State track & field swept all four MVC Athlete of the Week honors to kick off the 2021-22 season, as Mye'Joi Williams (Throws), Logan Calvin (Throws), Seven Hicks (Sprints) and Marshaun Cook (Sprints) were all recognized by the Valley for their performances at the John Coughlan Invite.

Williams, who is a sophomore, opened the 2021-22 indoor season on a high note by winning the shot put with a lifetime best throw of 16.64m (54-7.25 ft.). William's throw ranks second in the nation and first in the MVC. She also moved up in the Illinois State record book, now holding the second best mark in program history. This is the first MVC Female Field Athlete of the Week honors for Williams.

With an indoor personal best mark of 18.95m (62-2.25 ft.), Calvin, who has been named the MVC Male Field Athlete of the Week seven times in his career, won the shot put at the John Coughlan Invite. His throw ranks second in the NCAA and first in the MVC. Calvin's mark also ranks No. 2 all-time in school history, as he inches closer to the school record.

For the first time in her ISU career, Hicks was named the MVC Female Track Athlete of the Week, as she captured the win for Illinois State in the women's 60m dash with a personal best time of 7.52 seconds. With her time, Hicks moved up to No. 7 all-time in school history. Hicks also notched the top mark in the Valley on the weekend and ranks No. 17 nationally.

In his first meet in a Redbird uniform, Cook, who is a junior, won the men's 60m dash, clocking in at 6.83 seconds to set a new lifetime best. His time is the fastest in the Valley this season and ranks 27th nationally. Cook's time also moved him into the Illinois State record book, as he now holds the eighth fastest 60m dash time in program history. Cook was named MVC Male Track Athlete of the Week for the first time.

The Redbirds are set travel to Chicago, Illinois for the Blue Demon Holiday Invite, hosted by DePaul, on Friday, Dec. 10. The action from the Gately Indoor Track & Field Center will begin at 3:00 p.m. CT
