ST. LOUIS – Junior high jumper Grace Daun was featured in this week's Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight for her excellence in classroom and in the field, as well as her involvement on campus and in the Bloomington-Normal community.
As a nutrition and dietetics major, Daun currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.74 in her three years at Illinois State. For her success in the classroom and in competition, Daun has received numerous honors in her Redbird career, including being named to the 2021 USTFCCCA All-Academic team and the 2021 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team. In addition, Daun earned the 2021 MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award and was named to the 2020 MVC Honor Roll.
Outside of the classroom, Daun is also involved in two clubs on campus, holding leadership roles in both. Daun is the president of the Illinois State Alzheimer's club and also serves as the secretary for the Nutrition and Dietetics club.
In the Bloomington-Normal community, Daun volunteers at both the Carle BroMenn hospital and the Midwest Food Bank in Bloomington, helping to prepare meals for people in the community. Daun also volunteers in the nutrition station of Redbird Arena weekly, where she interacts with fellow student-athletes.
To qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30, have completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and be at least a sophomore in academic standing.
Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.
