NORMAL, Ill. – Coming off one of its biggest wins in recent years, the Illinois State gymnastics team hits the road Friday for a tri-meet with Midwest Independent Conference foes Southeast Missouri and Centenary at the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The meet is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
"The team had some great practices this week and focused on continual improvement of their routines," ISU head coach Bob Conkling said. "They are excited to get back out on the competition floor and show these improvements during competition."
Off the strength of a strong final rotation on floor, the Redbirds came from behind to defeat No. 18 Iowa State last Sunday at Horton Field House. The Redbirds were led in the meet by senior Isabelle Fox, who finished second in the all-around and earned MIC Newcomer and Gymnast of the Week honors for her efforts in the victory.
The Redbirds and Southeast Missouri will face off against each other for the third time this season on Friday. ISU defeated SEMO in dual meet in Normal on February 6, but the Redhawks outscored the Redbirds in the six-team GymQuarters Invitational the following weekend. SEMO Southeast tallied season-highs on floor and beam in the final two rotations to overcome Lindenwood, 194.425-193.000, last Sunday afternoon. Junior Anna Kaziska was awarded MIC Performance of the Week honors, after she led the Redhawks on floor and beam to win a pair of individual event titles in the final two rotations.
Centenary will be in action for the first time since a third-place finish in the Metroplex Challenge on February 13, when they competed against Oklahoma and host Texas Woman's University. Last week, The Ladies had a road conference meet at TWU cancelled due to weather, their second cancellation of the season.
