ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After a one stroke over par finish at the Louisiana Classics Invitational, Illinois State senior David Perkins has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week for the second time this season.
With his two Golfer of the Week honors this season, Perkins now has 13 such weekly honors over his career, which is one behind Dustin Garza from Wichita State for the most over a career in MVC history. This week he shares the honor with Southern Illinois' Matthis Besard, who was even with Perkins in Louisiana.
Perkins had rounds of 74, 70, and 73 over the tournament on the par-72 Oakbourne Country Club, and ended a stroke over par, tying for 16th place in the strong field.
This season Perkins leads the Redbirds in scoring average, averaging 73.0 strokes per round, including four rounds that were at or under par. His second-round 70 at the Louisiana Classics is tied for the lowest round for a Redbird this season, as he has four of the 10 lowest individual scores for ISU this season.
Illinois State and Perkins return to the course on March 28 when the team travels to Gulf Shores, Alabama to compete in the Craft Farms Intercollegiate, hosted by Eastern Michigan University.
