TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Illinois State softball team (15-4, 3-0 MVC) secured a 4-2 victory against Indiana State (6-13, 0-3 MVC) on Sunday to open Missouri Valley Conference play with a perfect 3-0 record.

BY THE NUMBERS / KEY INNINGS
- Three-straight singles in the opening frame pushed the first Redbird runner home, before a one-out single by Jayden Standish sent Kaili Chval charging home for an early 2-0 lead for Illinois State.
- Indiana State leveled the score in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run homer to left center field.
- The Redbirds made a pitching change in the fifth, as Mack Leonard moved to the circle in relief of Morgan Day, as Illinois State escaped the inning.
- A lead-off jack over the left center field wall by Dayna Kennedy helped the Redbirds regain the lead in the sixth. Pinch runner Michele Calabrese made her way around the bases, scoring on a passed ball, to push Illinois State out in front, 4-2.
- The Sycamores responded in the home half of the inning, loading the bases with one out. After a 10-pitch at-bat, Indiana State left the bases juiced to close the sixth.
- With the tying run at the dish for the Sycamores in the bottom of the seventh, Madi Bylak made a diving play in foul territory to seal the win, 4-2, for the Redbirds.

Illinois State will close non-conference play on Wednesday when it hosts Northern Illinois at 4 p.m. At this time, attendance is limited to player pass list only and not open to the general public.
