ST. LOUIS – Sophomore forward DeAnna Wilson was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. This is Wilson's first conference honor and Illinois State's third weekly award of the season.
The St. Louis-native was ISU's leading scorer in both games this weekend, averaging 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds to help the Redbirds sweep Loyola Chicago on the road and finish the regular season on a five-game winning streak.
Wilson put up 14 points in ISU's 64-61 win over the Ramblers on Friday, scoring all of her points in the second half, grabbing five boards, a steal and an assist. The sophomore followed Friday's performance with a career-high 17 points on Saturday afternoon, going 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the charity stripe while corralling a team-high eight rebounds.
