NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State gymnastics standouts Angelica Labat and Cameron Topp were instrumental in the Redbirds' season high score of 195.725 on Sunday in their home quad meet. For efforts, Labat repeated at the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week and Topp was honored with the MIC Performance of the Week on Tuesday.
The MIC Gymnast of the Week honor is the third for Labat this season, as she previously earned the award on Feb. 16 after winning a pair of all-around titles for the Redbirds and again last week for her performance in the tri-meet with Southeast Missouri and Centenary. Overall, this is Labat's fifth MIC Gymnast of the Week honor in her career and her tenth total MIC weekly recognition.
The Chesapeake, Virginia, native won the all-around win for the fifth time this season, breaking her previous career high set the week before with a 39.400 in ISU's home quad meet with Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Lindenwood. Labat tied a season best with a 9.900 to take the event win on vault and set a career best with a 9.900 on bars to finish in a tie for second place.
Topp's honor is the first for her this season and the first weekly honor of her career. The Martin, Michigan, native set a career best on floor with a 9.925 to tie for first place on Senior Day for the Redbirds. That mark bested her previous high score of 9.900 that won her the MIC individual title in the event in 2019.
The Redbirds return to action on Friday, March 12, for a tri-meet with host Southeast Missouri State and Lindenwood in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Action is set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
