ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Behind a stellar performance at the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate in which he finished second individually, Illinois State senior David Perkins has earned his 14th career MVC Golfer of the Week honor, tying the conference record.
The award is his third of the season, which is tied with former Wichita State standout Dustin Garza for the high-water mark in conference history.
Perkins put together three consecutive under-par rounds with a 70 (-2), 66 (-6), and 68 (-4), ending the tournament with a 12-under 204.
This season Perkins leads the Redbirds in scoring average, averaging 71.8 strokes per round, including nine rounds that were at or under par. His second and third round scores at the Missouri Tiger Intercollegiate are two of the three lowest by a Redbird this season, as he has six of the ten lowest individual scores this year.
ISU is back quickly on the course, as the team travels to West Lafayette, Indiana, to compete in the Boilermaker Invitational, an event the Redbirds won in 2019, the last time the event was contested.
