Men’s Golf Adds Valentin Peugnet for 2021-22

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's golf team has added transfer Valentin Peugnet to the roster for the 2021-22 season, announced by ISU head coach Ray Kralis.

Peugnet comes to Illinois State from Lander University, where he played in the fall of 2020 before most of the spring season was cancelled due to the pandemic in addition to a limited 2021 and will have three years of eligibility remaining. He had a scoring average of 73.18 during the 2020-21 season, playing in eight tournaments and 22 total rounds, with three top-10 finishes and nine rounds at or under par.

"All season I was hoping to one additional player to the squad for next year providing his resume showed he could have an immediate impact on our success," said Kralis. "Valentin brings that resume to the table. In addition to his success as a collegiate player – where he moved his individual ranking into the top 50 – he has a great deal of experience and success on both a national and international level. He is very technically sound in all facets of the game, and he generates plenty of speed with his full swing which helps tremendously. I look for him to challenge for playing time right away."

The native of Volmerange-les-Mines, France had his low round on the season came at the Camden Collegiate in October with a two-under 68, as he also finished with a three-under 69 at the 2021 Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate on February 15-16. His Spring Kick-Off Performance earned him Peach Belt Conference Co-Golfer of the Week

In his first season, which was cut short due to COVID-19, he played in six events with a stroke average of 74.19. He saw five of his 16 rounds during the season come in at or under par, and he started his career strong with back-to-back top-five finishes at the Kiawah Island Invitational on September 16-17 (69-69) and the Jay Jennison Cup (73-72-71).
