NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State redshirt sophomore guard Mary Crompton has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, as announced by the organization Thursday morning. The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
She is one of 51 NCAA Division I student-athletes named to the prestigious list, as well as one of two Missouri Valley Conference players. The Iowa City, Iowa native now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot to be announced in late May.
Crompton was tabbed the Valley's Most Improved Player and earned an All-MVC Honorable Mention nod during the 2020-21 season, averaging 11.1 points per game while finishing the year ranked third in the country in three-point field goal percentage, shooting at a 43.6% clip. Crompton averaged 2.7 triples per game to lead the MVC, also setting the ISU sophomore record for treys made in a season with 64 after previously breaking the freshman record during the 2019-20 campaign. The redshirt sophomore started in all 24 games and averaged 30.9 minutes played per contest to help the Redbirds make their first postseason appearance in eight years at the WNIT.
The Iowa City, Iowa native finished her undergraduate degree in just three years this spring, maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in Physiology, Neuroscience and Behavior, also adding a minor in Chemistry. She graduated summa cum laude as an Honors Program Scholar and Robert G. Bone Scholar. Crompton will pursue her master's degree while playing out her remaining years of athletic eligibility with the Redbirds.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore in athletic and academic standing at their current institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution.
