SERIES HISTORY
Saint Louis leads the all-time series, 3-2-1. The Redbirds are 2-0-1 against the Billikens in Normal. By nature of having a spring season for 2020-21, the 189-day turnaround between matchups is the shortest for any non-conference opponent that the Redbirds have faced.
Illinois State and Saint Louis most recently met on 2/21/2021, a 3-1 win for the Saint Louis, played in Earth City, Mo. Recently graduated Abby Basler scored in the 45th minute off an assist by current sophomore Ashlee Bakaitis to cut the ISU deficit to 2-1 just before the end of the half. Current junior Katharine Ashley had two shots as the Redbirds were outshot by a 14-9 margin.
LAST TIME OUT (4-3 OT LOSS AT WESTERN ILLINOIS ON 8/26/2019)
Senior Riley O'Brien scored in the 15th-minute, but Western Illinois' Amy Andrews responded with goals in the 23rd and 72nd minutes to give WIU the lead. Junior Allison Baker netted an equalizer in the 75th minute before Andrews struck in the 77th minute. Fifth-year senior Sarah LaFayette tied it at 3-3 in the 81st minute, but Andrews' fourth goal came just 1:46 into OT for a 4-3 win for WIU. Andrews' four goals mark the first time ISU has conceded four goals to the same player in one game.
O'BRIEN'S HOT START
Senior Riley O'Brien has scored in each of the team's first three matches and has scored in four-consecutive matches, extending into the spring 2021 season. As of 8/27, she is one of just seven NCAA D1 (only MVC) players with a goal in three-straight games to start the season. As of 8/27, O'Brien's three goals leads the MVC.
After Saint Louis, ISU is scheduled to host Utah on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
