SERIES HISTORY
Illinois State leads the all-time series, 2-0, outscoring the Rockets by a 3-1 margin. The teams are meeting in Normal for the first time on Sunday. Illinois State and Toledo most recently met on 9/14/2018, a 2-1 win for ISU in Normal.
LAST TIME OUT (AT VALPARAISO)
The Redbirds relentlessly pressured Valparaiso in the match's first 10 minutes, highlighted by a 25-yard shot of the post by sophomore Ashlee Bakaitis, but the Beacons prevailed after scoring the match's lone goal in the 83rd minute. ISU moved to 14-9-1 in MVC openers (8-7 on the road), suffering its first ever loss at Valpo (now 4-1). ISU outshot Valpo, 17-12.
TWO WITH THREE-PLUS, FOUR WITH TWO-PLUS
Fifth-year senior Natalie Vaughn-Low is tied for third in the MVC with four goals while senior Riley O'Brien is tied for the fourth with three. Illinois State is the only team in the MVC with two players with three-plus goals. Fifth-year senior Sarah LaFayette and junior Allison Baker each have two goals, as Illinois State and Evansville are the only teams in the MVC with four players with two-plus goals.
TOP OF THE MVC
Despite its 2-7 record and suffering a three-match scoreless streak earlier in the season, Illinois State is tied for the lead in the MVC in goals scored (13) while leading in goals per game (1.57). Conversely, Redbirds are eighth in goals allowed (19).
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
The match is part of Redbird Soccer's first Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion contest. Orange ribbons will be distributed as part of the team's initiative to create awareness for the Indigenous peoples of Canada and the United States who endured Residential Schools and Native American Boarding Schools. The student-athletes of the soccer program identified this cause to raise awareness for after 1,000 unmarked graves were found at these schools earlier this summer.
