Redbirds Stand 10th After First Day of Home Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – In the 57th iteration of the Redbird Invitational, ISU is in 10th place overall in the field with rounds of 307 and 303.  Maria Toledo Bailey is the top ISU golfer in fourth place overall with a one-under 143 for the day.

Eastern Kentucky leads the field with a two-round total of 283 and 289 – the first round setting an Invitational record. IUPUI had rounds of 287 and 290 with a second-place total of 577. Northern Illinois (590), Butler (595), Drake (602), Bradley (602), Ball State (605), UNI (606), and Bowling Green (609) stand ahead of ISU's 610. Loyola Chicago (614), Southern Illinois (615), Ohio (616), Western Illinois (618), Indiana State (618), and Valparaiso (624) sit behind the Redbirds with 18 holes to play in the tournament.

Playing as an individual, Toledo Bailey was the top Redbird finisher, as she opened with a one-over par round over the opening 18 holes, including a pair of birdies and 13 pars. She opened the second round with an eagle, and had five additional birdies, and three above-par holes to go with nine pars for the two-under 70 over the final 18 holes.

Ali Schrock is tied for 25th in the field, with a six-over 150, including a first-round 74 and a second-round 76. Her opening round saw three birdies and an eagle, while the second round had a birdie and 13 pars.

Avalon Woodward who is tied for 36th, opened her day with a one-over 73 in a round that saw three birdies, four bogeys, and 11 pars. She had an up-and-down second round with five pars and three birdies for a second-round 79, giving her a two-round 152.

A pair of ISU newcomers – Kehler Koss and Kira Wolf are each tied for 45th with a two-round 154. Koss reached her total with an opening-round 80 followed by a 74. Her opening round saw 11 pars and a birdie, while turning around over the final 18 holes with three birdies and 10 pars. Wolf also opened with an 80 with a birdie and eight pars and came back with eight pars and four birdies.

Jasmine Yi, Illinois State's second individual, carded rounds of 81 and 77 in which she had three birdies and 19 pars through 36 holes on the day.

Vinisha Gunaseelan, in her first round as a Redbird, carding two consecutive rounds of 80, including a dozen pars and eight birdies.

The Redbirds return to action for the third and final round of the tournament, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
