ISU Climbs Two Spots Over Final Day of Redbird Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's golf team climbed two spots in the team standings with an eight-over 296 – the team's top round of the tournament – as the Redbirds took eighth overall in the 16-team field at the 57th Redbird Invitational.

Eastern Kentucky won the event with a tournament-record 54-hole total of 861, while IUPUI took second with an 870. Northern Illinois (887), Butler (894), Bradley (897), Drake (904), and Ball State (905) finished just ahead of Illinois State's 906.  UNI (910), Southern Illinois (913), Bowling Green (914), Ohio (916), Loyola Chicago (918), Indiana State (926), Valparaiso (931), and Western Illinois (935) rounded out the teams in the strong field.

Individually leading the way for ISU was Maria Toledo Bailey, whose one-under 215 placed her in a tie for fourth place in the tournament. Ali Schrock carded a final-round 72 to finish with a six-over 222, tying for 12th. Kehler Koss and Avalon Woodward shot matching 228's, which is tied for 39th in the field, while Kira Wolf shot a 231 for a tie of 52nd. Vinisha Gunaseelan and Jasmine Yi each finished with a 234, tied for 62nd.

Toledo Bailey – in her first top-five tournament finish as a Redbird – shot an even-par 72 over the final 18 holes, including birdies on the sixth and 18th holes, to go along with 14 total pars.

Schrock also shot an even-par round of 72, including three birdies – on the sixth, 13th, and 18th holes – in addition to her dozen pars in the final round.

Koss ended her final round with a two-over 74, as she had birdies on the second, 15th and 17th holes, and was one shot over par on both the front and back nine of the course.

Woodward closed her day at four shots over par, with 10 pars and birdies on the 11th and 18th holes.

Newcomer Wolf – a transfer from Minnesota – ended with a five-over 77 on the day with 10 pars and birdies on the eighth and 17th holes.

Gunaseelan, who struggled on the first day, rebounded with a two-over 73 in the final round, including four birdies (first, sixth, 13th, and 15th holes) and nine pars.

Yi closed her final round with a birdie on her final hole of the tournament, the par-four 16th hole, as she also added a dozen pars on the day.

The Redbirds return to action on September 27-29 at the Johnie Imes Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri.
