CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – In both the men's and women's final cross country races before the 2022 MVC Championship, the women's squad placed third overall, while the men had two runners compete and did not qualify for the team score.
Wisconsin took the team title for the event with 17 points, while Illinois placed second with 81 points, just ahead of Illinois State's 83. Bradley (88), Butler (115), Iowa's B squad (125) and Chicago State (190) rounded out the seven schools in the field.
Ashley Heagy paced the Redbirds to a ninth-place finish in a time of 18:38.6, while Maggie Reed set a new collegiate personal best with a time of 18:43.1, placing 12th. Kaitlin Skeate also set a new PR with a time of 18:52.9, placing 15th. Mackenzie Brownrigg's 19:14.9 placed her 23rd, while Mattison Plummer (19:51.0), Vivianna Sanfilippo (20:17.8), and Kendy Ummel (20:21.2) finished 33rd, 34th, and 35th, respectively. Jenna Gruber rounded out the eight Redbirds in the field with a time of 20:35.1, placing 39th on the 5,000-meter course.
The two Redbird men in the field were Julian Head, who placed 30th in a time of 26:56.9, and Connor Murphy whose time of 27:07.5 saw him finish 33rd.
The ISU squads take to the road next weekend to compete in the 2022 MVC Championships, hosted in Terre Haute, Indiana, hosted by Indiana State University. The races start on Friday, October 28 at 9 a.m. CT.
