PROVO, Utah – It was a difficult task for the Illinois State gymnastics team Friday night, as the Redbirds faced off against No. 14 BYU and No. 35 Washington and came in third at the Marriott Center with a score of 192.800.
Scoring Breakdown:
•   BYU: 196.450
•   Washington: 195.800
•   Illinois State: 192.800
Thoughts from Coach Bob Conkling:
"We started off rough on bars and beam with uncharacteristic mistakes from our athletes. We came back strong on floor and vault, but it was a little too late by then to be able to post a decent team score. We have some work to do before our home meet next Saturday so we can finish strong heading into the MIC Championship."
Team Notes:
•   Illinois State started on bars and had to take a fall as part of the final score, coming in with a 47.575.
•   Next up was beam and the Redbirds once again had to take a fall on way to posting a 47.625.
•   ISU rebounded a bit on the third rotation, posting a score of 48.800 on floor to head into the fourth and final rotation.
•   The Redbirds capped off the night on their best event, posting a 48.800 to finish a tough road meet.
Gymnast Notes:
•   Freshman Jaye Mack tied her career-best with a 9.925 on floor to finish in a three-way tie for first place.
•   Angelica Labat came in third in the all-around with a final score of 39.000.
•   J'Chelle Heard, Mack and Labat were part of a six-way tie for eighth place on vault with matching scores of 9.800.
•   Labat tied for seventh on beam with a 9.775 to lead the way for the Redbirds.Â
Up Next:
Illinois State will host Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, March 12, at Redbird Arena for Senior Night at 5 p.m. The meet will be the Redbirds' regular-season finale, before heading to Texas for the MIC Championship on March 18.
