NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head coach Kristen Gillespie announced Tuesday the addition of Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins to the women's basketball program. Wright-Gaskins will have two years of eligibility remaining to compete for the Redbirds.
"We are ecstatic to welcome Ta'Shonna to the Redbird program," said Gillespie. "She is a fierce competitor in addition to being a great defender and rebounder. Ta'Shonna is an outstanding player who will make an immediate impact on our team."
Ta'Shonna Wright-Gaskins | Guard | 5-9 | Shillington, Penn. | Chipola College
- A two-time All-Panhandle Conference selection at Chipola College including a First Team nod during the most recent 2021-22 campaign, Wright-Gaskins helped the Lady Indians make back-to-back appearances at the NJCAA Tournament in 2021 and 2022
- Averaged 12.9 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting at a 53.0% clip from the floor this season to earn All-State/NJCAA All-Region VII honors
- Began her collegiate career at Florida Southwestern State, where she averaged 6.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game as a freshman en route to a conference title
- Helped Governor Mifflin HS in Shillington, Penn. to a Berkshire League tournament title in 2019, averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game as a senior
Wright-Gaskins joins grad transfer Paige Robinson (Bethany, Ill./Drury University) and freshmen Abbie Aalsma (Waupun, Wis./Waupun HS) and Taylor Veach (Dewitt, Iowa/Central Dewitt HS) as newcomers to the 2022-23 squad.
