Durrant Joins Illinois State Athletics Compliance Staff

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Athletics has added another key member to its compliance staff, as James Durrant has been hired as the Director of Compliance & Student Services.

Durrant comes to Illinois State, after working as the assistant director of compliance at Grand Canyon University.

"James' experience and approach to NCAA compliance really stood out to us and we look forward to him joining our compliance team," Illinois State Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance & Student Services Cindy Harris said. "The NCAA Division I landscape right now is ever-changing and always challenging, so James' work ethic and collaborative style will help us to meet the needs of our coaches, student-athletes and campus partners. We welcome James and his wife, Esther, to the Redbird family."

While at Grand Canyon, Durrant was responsible for day-to-day oversight and monitoring of NCAA amateurism bylaws, including the implementation of institutional policies regarding name, image and likeness following Arizona law. In addition, he assisted with updating compliance policies and procedures and helped create schedule and manage all NCAA rules education for student-athletes, department and University staff.

Prior to his work at GCU, he spent time as a compliance intern in the Utah Valley compliance office. While there, he assisted with the creation and updating of educational materials for coaches including prep for recruiting certification tests.
