ATHENS, Ohio – Senior swimmer Cassidy Carey and Junior diver Eva Reyes both earned wins Friday as Illinois State Swim and Dive opened up its two-day slate vs Ohio.
Reyes, the reigning Valley Diver of the Week, moved to 2-0 this season on the 3M boards with a mark of 301.50 that set a new personal best and won by nearly 60 points. It is the first time in her career that she surpassed 300 on the 3M boards and the first time since her freshman year that she has posted a score of at least 300 in either diving event. Her mark Friday ranks second in program history is the top mark in the Valley this season.
She is the first Valley Diver this season to surpass 300 on either diving event.
In the pool, Carey earned a 200y Backstroke win for the second straight weekend. She went 2:03.40 to lead Illinois State and move to 2-0 this year in that event after a mark of 2:04.26 to win in the season opener vs Eastern Illinois Oct. 6.
The Bobcats hold a 209-70 lead over Illinois State heading into Day Two, which wraps up with the 1M Dive. Teams are also set to compete in long course exhibition races tomorrow morning in an effort to earn Olympic Trial cuts for the 2024 Summer Games.
