Redbird Soccer Draws 1-1 at Valpo

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State (3-4-4, 1-1-3 in MVC) drew a 1-1 tie with Valpo (5-2-1, 1-0-4 in MVC) on Thursday night in Indiana at Brown Field. This is the third 1-1 draw for the 'Birds in Missouri Valley Conference play while also garnering one victory and one loss.

Illinois State jumped out to the early lead as Haley Glover netted her sixth goal of the season in the 29th minute. The unassisted goal would remain the only in the first half, as the Redbird defense, led by Cyerra Hibbert, Emily Ehlert, and Ava Watson, continued to remain solid and forcing the ball out of the box.

In the second half, Valpo tied it up on a PK goal in the 62nd minute after a foul by Illinois State. The two goals would remain the only in the game. In the shot count, Valpo led 18-8, with five on goal. Audrey Brown made four saves on the night, including a diving stop to preserve the draw.

The Redbirds and the Beacons both earned a point in conference play. Valpo now has four draws in conference, and the 'Birds follow closely behind with three. The Redbirds will take on the Racers of Murray State at 1 PM CT on Sunday, at Adelaide Street Field. Redbird soccer will also host a clinic for kids ages 6-12 immediately following the match on Sunday.
