Yun Earns Medalist Honors as Redbirds Take Second

BARTONVILLE, Ill. – Jinyoung Yun earned ISU's first medalist honor of the 2023-24 season – and the first of her Redbird career – as the senior carded a two-under-par 70 at the Coyote Creek Classic to end the three rounds with an even-par 216, out-distancing the rest of the field by a pair of strokes.

The Redbirds, behind a final-round 306 and a three-round 905 took runner-up at the event, as tournament host Bradley won the team tournament with an 897. Purdue Fort Wayne (923), Green Bay (938), Northern Iowa (961), Evansville (969), Western Illinois (972), and Chicago State (1013) rounded out the eight schools in the field.

The Redbirds' next tournament is the team's final of the fall season when the travel to Boulder City, Nevada, to compete in the Clash at Boulder Creek on October 22-24.

Yun had four birdies in her round, against just two bogeys, and a dozen pars for the two-under-par round, while her 216 is tied for the seventh-lowest tournament score in program history, and the second time this season in three tournaments where she has finished at tournament at or under par, and her fifth round under par.

Vinisha Gunaseelan and Ali Schrock – both playing as individuals – placed fourth and fifth, respectively, as each ended the tournament with a final-round 73.  Gunaseelan had three birdies and 11 pars as Schrock had five birdies and seven pars.

Dani Grace Schrock tied for eighth individually, becoming the fourth Redbird to finish inside of the top-10 in the field for the tournament. The younger Schrock ended her tournament with a seven-over 79, a round that saw her card a dozen pars and six over-par scores.

Senior Avalon Woodward had a birdie and eight pars, carding a final-round 82 to tie for 12th in the tournament field with a three-round 232.

Kira Wolf's 14th-place finish gave ISU six golfers inside of the top-15, as she ended the round with an 80 including two birdies and eight pars, ending with a three-round 233.

The final ISU golfer in the tournament field was Michaela Kverkova, who used a five-over 77 to finish in a tie of 29th overall, as her final round had a birdie and 13 pars, finishing with a three-round 242.
