NORMAL, Ill. – Using a career-low round of 72 from junior Reagan Kennedy, the Illinois State women's golf team climbed two spots into a tie of sixth place at the 2025 Redbird Invitational, hosted at Weibring Golf Club on Sunday and Monday.
Sitting with a two-round 604, the Redbirds finished with a 299 on the final day, the third-lowest score of the day, climbing from eighth place after two rounds to sixth place at the culmination of the tournament. Eastern Kentucky claimed the team crown with a 54-hole score of 879, one shot ahead of runner-up South Dakota's 880. Butler (897), Bowling Green (899), and Northern Illinois (901) finished just ahead of ISU's 903.
South Dakota State tied with ISU with the 903, while Drake (906), Evansville (927), Illinois Wesleyan (928), Loyola-Chicago (929), Dayton (941), Indiana State (943), Northern Iowa (956), IU Indy (991), and Valparaiso (1039) rounded out the 16 schools in the field.
Kennedy had a career-low round with an even-par 72, as she had five birdies and nine pars on her round, finishing with a tournament score of 227, and tied for 23rd individually.
Elise Fennell was ISU's top finisher in the event, as she tied for fifth overall, carding a final-round 75 on her last day, using a pair of birdies and 11 pars, closing the tournament with a 54-hole score of 220.
Dani Grace Schrock had a birdie and 13 pars over her final round for a 75, as she tied for 10th behind a three-round score of 223. Alex Sparrow carded a five-over 77 on the final round, and had two birdies and a dozen pars, finishing in a tie of 42nd place behind a tournament score of 233.
The Redbirds head back out next weekend, as the team travels to Toledo, Ohio, to compete in the Inverness Intercollegiate, hosted at Inverness Club, starting on Monday, September 15.
