Normal, Ill. – After an astonishing performance at Eastern Illinois University's last Friday, Amiri Buchanan threw a personal-best of 18.59m to capture MVC Male Field Athlete of the Week.
Buchanan participated in shot put where he marked an 18.59m (61'0"). This mark improved his personal best by .42m. The mark placed Buchanan No.3 in Illinois State program history. He is now sitting No. 1 for the Valley going into Conference this weekend, No.7 in the Midwest Region and No.35 in the NCAA.
Not only is Buchanan excelling in shot put, but he is also doing great in weight throw. Currently, he is No. 5 in the Valley and No.13 in the Midwest Region with a personal-best mark of 19.78m (64'10.74")

The Redbirds will travel to Chicago, Illinois to compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships Feb. 26 and 27 at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track and Field Center.
