AUSTIN, Texas – For the second straight year, Illinois State sharpshooter Mary Crompton is one of 16 women's basketball student-athletes to be named a CSC Academic All-American for the 2022-23 season, as announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday.
Crompton becomes the first ever Redbird in program history to be named Academic All-America First Team, only one season after collecting Academic All-America Third Team honors. Only Crompton and Beth Landes Ehresman (1980) have been honored with Academic All-America honors in program history.
Crompton, who was recently named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second time in her ISU career, is one of five student-athletes on the list who maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Biology after having graduated in three years with a bachelor's degree in Physiology, Neuroscience and Behavior in May 2021.
In 2021, she was one of 14 students (on a campus of 20,000+) to be named a Robert G. Bone Scholar, Illinois State's highest undergraduate honor.
The graduate student is averaging 10.9 points per game with a career-high 84 made triples on the year. Crompton is currently the program record holder in career three-pointers with 298, which places the Iowa City native in sole possession of second all-time in MVC history as well.
Crompton and the Redbirds are preparing to make their third straight postseason appearance under Kristen Gillespie, as they were awarded a spot in the 2023 WNIT field earlier this week. Illinois State will hit the road to Columbia, Missouri on Thursday to face off with the Missouri Tigers of the SEC.
Tip-off between the Redbirds and Tigers is set for 7:00 p.m. CT from Mizzou Arena Thursday as the game will be broadcasted on SECN+.
