ATLANTA, Ga. – Illinois State women's basketball assistant coach Katrina Beck was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 announced by the WBCA Monday.
Beck played an integral role in this year's program since joining the staff in June of 2022, helping guide the Redbirds to the program's first 20-win season since 2010-11, ISU's first MVC regular season title since 2010, and most recently, ISU's third straight postseason appearance as the Redbirds played in the 2023 WNIT.
"I'm so grateful to coach with some of the best coaches in the country and to coach some of the best players in the country," said Beck. "They make me a better coach and a better person everyday."
A former Redbird women's basketball player, Beck came back to Illinois State after spending the last season at Lindenwood University where she was responsible for planning and executing player development for combo guards through on court training and film sessions.
In addition to scouting opponents, recruiting and practice preparation, Beck also coordinated team travel, managed gear and equipment needs and organized housing and orientation for student-athletes among multiple other day-to-day tasks.
A four-year letterwinner and starter for the Illinois State women's basketball team, Beck finished her career fifth all-time in career starts and notched 200 assists and 357 rebounds over her four seasons in a Redbird uniform.
With Beck's selection to the list, she becomes the first ISU assistant coach to receive the honor since former assistant Mariah Brawner-Henley received the distinction in 2022.
The WBCA Thirty Under 30 program was created to recognize 30 up-and-coming women's basketball coaches age 30 and under at all levels of the game. Each honoree has exemplified their involvement in community service and mentorship and impact on others, professional manner, and attitude and professional association involvement.
