NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State track & field team completed the first day of Eastern Illinois University's Big Blue Meet Friday with men's and women's hammer throw, shot put, triple jump, and 5,000-meter run.
In Friday's action, Madison Saunders and Danielle Taets when 1-2 in triple jump. Junior, Saunders marked 11.68 meters (38-4 ft.) to finish in first. Taets placed second after jumping 11.49 meters (37-8.50 ft.).
In his debut outdoor meet with the Redbirds, Leslie Fisher placed second in triple jump with a mark of 13.66m (44-9.75 ft.).
Coming off a champion performance at the indoor Missouri Valley Conference Championships, Amiri Buchanan and Mye'Joi Willams took first in men's and women's shot put. Buchanan threw a 17.61m (57-9.50 ft.). Williams marked a 15.70m (51-6.25 ft.).

Action will kick off at O'Brien Stadium tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with women's long jump and women's javelin throw. On the track, action will begin at 12:15 p.m. with the 3000m women's steeplechase, with men's to follow.

Following the action at EIU, the Redbirds will compete at home March 31- April 1, for the Redbird Challenge.
