SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Mye'Joi Williams punched her ticket to the NCAA Track and Field Championships with a ninth-place finish in the women's shot put. Williams tossed 17.23m (56-6.5 ft.) at the West Prelims to advance.
She becomes the first Redbird to qualify for NCAA Championship meet in the women's shot put since Jianna Williams did so in 2015.
The women's long jump competition saw ISU junior Melissa Parrella competing as part of flight one of four. The Venezuela native jumped to a final distance of 6.08m (19-11.5 ft.), allowing Parrella to finish 17th overall amongst the field of 48.
Day two got started in the women's javelin as Taylor Kesner and Zofia LeHew aimed to make an impact as they competed in the first of three flights. Kesner, on her second attempt, would throw 47.45m (155-8) to finish 24th overall. Meanwhile, for LeHew, it would be a best mark of 40.10m (131-7) to wrap up her 2023 outdoor season.
Senior Rachel Hickey would make her second straight appearance in the NCAA West Preliminary Round, as she would be in action for the women's 800m. Hickey posted a qualifying time of 2:07.60 to finish seventh in heat four and 30th overall.
In the women's 100m hurdles, senior Hassy Fashina-Bombata would race to a time of 13.70 in heat three as she finished 31st overall in the event. Then, later in the evening, Fashina-Bombata would compete in the women's 200m as the Nanaimo, B.C., Canada native clocked a time of 23.80 in heat one, finishing 35th overall.
Competing in the NCAA West Preliminary Round for the first time as a Redbird, senior Kayla Perry clocked a time of 59.95 in the women's 400m hurdles to finish sixth in heat five and 34th overall.
